Deja Vu Channel Swim

WE DID IT!! 23HRS 19MINS WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!

AND WE'RE OFF!!

Rebecca Johnson had the dubious pleasure of hitting the French mainland (literally) at 14:30. Actually,a load of French rocks left unsympathecially by the French on the coastline at Cape Gris-Nez, typical. She was escorted to the shore by a dinghy for safety and confirmation of the landing, Carolyn was also in the dinghy as it was apparent that the changeover would have to be made before they could get back to the main boat.

AND WE'RE BACK AGAIN!!
Rebecca Tunstall started the 4th round of swimming at 23:50 and it was unsure at that point how the tides were going to affect the final stage.  14 year old Tilley was next in at 00:50 and it seemed possible that she might be able to land within her hour swim. Unfortunately the time ended with still 1 km to go and it rested with Hannah Tunstall to complete the landing at 02:09 just west of the beach they had originally departed from 23 hours and 19 minutes earlier. Hannah was followed to the beach by a dinghy for safety and confirmation of the official landing.

Keep the messages coming, every message is being sent directly to the boat and they really do help to keep them battling away. You will see from the track log that they have been swept far to the west and actually missed the French coast. I wonder what the record is for the swim from Dover to Sagres.

The Girls  left at 2:50 am Friday morning, 2nd July 2010, with Rebecca Tunstall leading the way on the first leg.  Spirits were high but quickly dampened when they had a warning from the coastguard to keep the noise down. Apparently they could be heard from as far as Folkestone singing the first line (only) of the Michael Jackson song, This IS IT !.  Apparently this very same song was also reportedly heard at about the very same time coming from  a VW transporter travelling back to Lightwater.

The girls are swimming in strict 1 hour sessions in the same order so if you look at the tracking web site you can work out which girls have  swum at each tracking point using the following chart. You need to zoom in using the + button on the left of the tracking page until you can see the individual tracking points. Track 50 is always the latest point and indicates their current position. It is worth noting that very low numbers could be the tracking from the previous  solo crossing return leg of the boat from Calais and not Rebecca Johnson proving she can beat Kirsty by swimming at 20 knots.
